Relief Carving with Eagle and WhaleView more work by William Pelowook
Pelowook began with a richly colored piece of blue ivory, or walrus ivory that has been found after many years underwater. Different tusks color at varying rates and saturation, depending on the thickness of the tusk and the location in which it was found. This one, as the outer layer was carved away, revealed a creamy, white center that provides a stunning color contrast.
